VERSEKIND THEME GUIDE

A biblical guide to love

Scripture begins love with God, not sentiment. God’s self-giving love in Christ forms a people who tell the truth, forgive, bear with one another, protect the vulnerable, and seek a neighbour’s good.

Read in context

The selected passages connect God’s initiative in loving us with the concrete shape of Christian love. First Corinthians describes patient, non-boastful love inside a divided church. Romans shows love fulfilling the law by refusing harm. John and Paul point to Christ’s sacrifice as both source and pattern. This is costly covenant faithfulness, not simply warm feeling.

A prayerful way to use these passages

Read slowly enough to let Scripture examine the way you speak and act. Replace the word “love” with the name of a real relationship and notice where patience, honesty, boundaries, service, or forgiveness is required. Love never requires hiding abuse; seeking safety and wise help can itself be truthful love.

Whose genuine good is God asking me to seek in a concrete way today?
